About soft play in Edinburgh
The Edinburgh soft play scene is broader than it first appears, though the genuine indoor play venues — purpose-built soft play centres with frames, slides, and dedicated children's zones — number closer to a dozen once you filter out the supermarkets, pubs, and outdoor parks that appear alongside them. What's there covers a reasonable range: a handful of toddler-and-baby-focused rooms that prioritise calm and sensory-friendly environments, a couple of larger multi-activity venues with obstacle courses, trampolining, or laser tag for older children, and a few community-style café setups where play is secondary to a decent coffee. Several run SEN or quieter sessions, which is worth checking if that matters to you.
Parking and card payments are rarely a problem at the dedicated venues, and cafés are fairly common — though reviews consistently flag food prices and quality as a weak point, so it's worth eating before you go or lowering expectations on that front.
Weekend sessions at the busier venues fill up quickly, and a number operate timed slots rather than open-ended entry. Booking ahead rather than turning up is the safer approach, especially for Saturday mornings or birthday party dates.
